January is the month for turning over a new leaf. So what's February for, besides some groundhog behavior analysis and a confusing calendar number system? Well, I'll tell you. February is for digging in, for going back into those intentions and making them part of our every day lives.
Maybe you got inspired and decided to try yoga or meditation, so you dropped into a class here and listened to a recording there. If you didn't find a teacher or practice that inspired you, you might be already tempted to throw in the towel. "I can't do that - I'm not bendy enough" or "I can't do that - I can't sit on the floor, and my mind wanders too much." Once we start telling ourselves stories about our deficiencies, they quickly become a reality. They become fact not because that story IS true, but because our perception has made it so.
The real truth is this: yoga and meditation are practices accessible to everyone because they can be adapted to each student's needs. So if you tried a class or two in January and didn't feel like it worked for you, don't give up! There's a practice out there that you will resonate with.
In February we are offering 4 ways to find your path to a personalized yoga practice. In both "Yoga Breakdown" at Riegel Ridge Community Center and "Yoga Basics" at RiverSoul Yoga, we will dive into common poses, finding the alignment, contraction, and stretch in our bodies. The workshop series "Every BODY Can Do Yoga" at Patanjali Yoga will use chairs, bolsters, blocks, and blankets to teach students to find the exact modification needed to allow the body the feel strong and supported. Also at Patanjali Yoga, "Meditation For Gratitude and Abundance" we will use mantra, visualization, and self-study techniques to land with two feet in our lives, finding stability and connection.
